Ascend ISR Systems MORSEL: Multispectral Drone Camouflage Built for Modern Warfare

Drone warfare has permanently altered the logic of ground operations. Unmanned aerial systems are no longer limited to brigade-level reconnaissance or strategic surveillance — they operate at the squad level, carrying out direct observation, target acquisition, and strike coordination in real time. And as drone use has expanded, so has the sophistication of counter-drone detection. Modern forces now field thermal optics, third-generation night vision devices, and AI-assisted detection systems capable of identifying a commercial drone at altitude within seconds. The gap between being observed and being eliminated has collapsed.

Who Is Ascend ISR Systems?

Ascend ISR Systems was founded by a team of aerospace defense engineers with backgrounds across advanced defense programs, space and airborne systems, and commercial aviation. The company began by developing stealth enhancements for unmanned aircraft on behalf of select NATO Special Operations units and direct action teams within US SOCOM. Every system is designed and manufactured in-house within the United States.

What makes Ascend's development process distinctive is the feedback loop between their engineering team and the operators fielding their equipment. Lessons move in real time between those employing the systems and those refining them. Ascend currently maintains a dedicated testing and operations group inside Ukraine, where each system is fielded, evaluated, and evolved in parallel with those who rely on them. Capabilities are validated through sustained operational employment, not controlled demonstration.

The MORSEL

MORSEL stands for Multi Objective Reconnaissance Stealth Environmental Loiterer. It is a multispectral signature mitigation chassis for unmanned aerial systems, engineered to directly counter modern night vision and thermal observation devices across three separate detection spectrums simultaneously.

Counter Thermal

The MORSEL is constructed from a proprietary blend of aviation fabric further enhanced with an in-house thermal mitigation coating. When mounted, it significantly reduces a drone's thermal signature, allowing the aircraft to blend into ambient temperature gradients across both natural and man-made environments at low to medium altitudes. AI-powered thermal optics and conventional FLIR-based detection systems struggle to distinguish the MORSEL-equipped airframe from environmental noise.

Night Vision Suppression

Night vision devices are now accessible to nearly every force on the modern battlefield, turning the night into a detection grid for exposed aircraft. The MORSEL denies this advantage by encasing key areas of the drone that are prone to LED strobing, while its low near-infrared reflectivity suppresses infrared feedback. The result is a dramatic reduction in detectability under third-generation image intensifier and Gen 3+ night vision systems.

Visual Spectrum Concealment

At low altitude, a drone's silhouette and coloration are immediately recognisable against sky and terrain. The MORSEL applies camouflage principles borrowed from low-altitude combat aircraft, using modern pattern designs to disrupt the airframe's outline and make detection difficult across varied terrain types. The system is available in Multicam, Multicam Tropic, Multicam Arid, Multicam Black, Multicam Alpine, M81 Woodland and Stealth Grey.

Modular and Reusable

Unlike static coatings or single-use wraps, the MORSEL is a reusable, mission-configurable aerial camouflage chassis. Its internal basis attachment system anchors an interchangeable outer camouflage layer to the airframe, allowing operators to rapidly swap exterior patterns to match shifting mission environments or terrain. The attachment system does not rely on adhesive components for the primary layer, meaning the MORSEL can be removed, repacked and reapplied across multiple sorties.

No Performance Compromise

The MORSEL is engineered with aerial maneuverability as a hard constraint. It integrates with the aircraft without degrading handling, agility or speed. Communication systems remain fully operational, with no interference to radio transmission from the camouflage fabric or its coating. The material is also weather resistant, shedding light rain and snowfall to prevent the waterlogged surfaces that increase drag and reflect light.

The MORSEL is precision-cut for each specific airframe, ensuring proper coverage and secure attachment. The MORSEL-G

The MORSEL-G extends the signature mitigation principle from the drone to the operator. It is an adaptive shroud designed to mount directly on FPV goggle systems, completely eliminating visible and infrared illumination from the headset while simultaneously suppressing its thermal signature.

The modern battlefield is an electronic warzone where even a miniscule stray source of light can compromise the position of an entire ground element. FPV goggles emit visible light from their display screens, emit IR illumination detectable by night vision, and generate a distinctive thermal profile that can reveal an operator's position from the air. The MORSEL-G eliminates all three.

Mount Ready

The MORSEL-G features a V-cut across its frontal surface, allowing it to interface with helmet-mounted adapters for secure attachment during high-mobility operations. Strategic access flaps allow quick adjustment to controls and trackpads without removing the shroud, keeping full functionality while maintaining environmental protection.

Field Proven

What started as a niche solution for a special weapons and tactics team has evolved into a fielded piece of kit across multiple elite warfighting units globally. The MORSEL-G has been validated in the same operational conditions as the rest of the Ascend lineup: not in a demonstration environment, but under sustained real-world employment.
