Brand Spotlight: NorArm Tactical
Norwegian tactical apparel built on military and combat experience.
In an industry where almost every tactical brand claims to be designed by professionals, NorArm Tactical has a background that is genuinely difficult to replicate. The Norwegian company was not created around a marketing concept. Its origins trace back to military service, deployments, and years spent using tactical clothing in environments ranging from the mountains of Norway to Afghanistan and Iraq. That history explains the phrase at the centre of the brand: Made From Experience.
Founded in 2019 by Milan Zangana and Thomas Flesvik, NorArm Tactical set out to develop high-end tactical clothing and equipment informed by the direct experiences of the people who would actually use it. What began as a two-person operation has since developed into a recognised European tactical apparel brand, best known for products such as the Kandahar Combat Uniform — and it is increasingly hard to find another European manufacturer with a comparable story behind it.
The People Behind NorArm
Milan Zangana is the CEO and co-founder of NorArm. Born in northern Iraq, he came to Norway as a young child after his family left Kurdistan, and would eventually enter Norwegian military service. His background includes time with the Telemark Battalion, one of the most well-known professional units within the Norwegian Army, a motorised infantry unit certified as an Immediate Reaction Force for NATO commitments. That experience introduced him to the realities of military equipment in a way that conventional product development cannot reproduce.
His connection to conflict extended well beyond Norwegian service. Milan later travelled to northern Iraq and volunteered alongside Kurdish Peshmerga forces fighting ISIS, an experience he documented in his book Blood Makes the Grass Grow: A Norwegian Volunteer's War Against the Islamic State. In a subsequent interview with Gunpowder Magazine, he described spending approximately 18 months continuously in a combat uniform during that period. He respected the equipment he wore, but the experience also gave him a precise understanding of where tactical clothing could be improved — not because the products were bad, but because he had used them long enough to identify the edges of what they did well.
Thomas Flesvik is the other half of the founding team. He served in the Norwegian Home Guard, also with experience in an elite unit within his branch, and brought the entrepreneurial background that helped turn Milan's ideas about better tactical clothing into an actual company. NorArm's founders have been open about not coming from conventional corporate or academic backgrounds. What they had was military experience, familiarity with high-end tactical equipment, and a shared belief that some of that equipment could be approached differently.
Made From Experience
NorArm's slogan is more than branding. The experience behind it spans environments that could hardly be more different: the cold, wet and mountainous terrain of Norway, the heat and dust of Afghanistan, and the desert battlefields of Iraq. Each environment creates different demands for tactical clothing. A garment designed around hot climates may perform poorly in wet cold. Heavy durable fabric that handles abrasion against body armour can cause overheating during high-output movement. Materials that breathe well may sacrifice the durability that repeated contact with plate carriers and belts demands.
NorArm's design philosophy is built around that reality. Instead of asking what a combat uniform should look like, NorArm's founders asked how it should perform — specifically when worn continuously under armour, during extended operations, across changing environments. The answer became the Kandahar Combat Uniform.
Kandahar Combat Pants
The Kandahar Combat Pants are NorArm's most technically developed product and the core of what the brand stands for. The trousers use 50/50 NYCO ripstop as their primary fabric — a material with an established track record in professional military clothing — but NorArm did not use the same material throughout the garment. Four-way stretch fabric is incorporated around the crotch and lower back, two areas where a rigid primary fabric creates significant restriction during climbing, kneeling and low crawls. The result is a trouser that moves with the body in areas that need it without sacrificing durability in areas that bear abrasion from equipment.
The Kandahar's most distinctive technical feature is the Integrated Air Circulation System. Ventilation openings positioned around the crotch, inner thighs and calves allow airflow through the lower body during movement. When most of the torso and hips are covered by a plate carrier, belt system and cummerbund, active ventilation in the lower half of the clothing system has a disproportionate effect on heat management over the course of a long operation. The knee sections include integrated padding at an adjustable height position, eliminating the need for separate external knee pads in most environments. Cargo pockets are accessible both horizontally and vertically, adjustable lower legs accommodate different boot and gaiter combinations, and built-in boot hooks keep the trouser in place during movement.
Kandahar Combat Shirt
The Kandahar Combat Shirt follows the same material logic as the trousers. The sleeves and high-wear areas use 50/50 NYCO ripstop for the abrasion resistance that repeated contact with body armour, pack straps and weapons creates, while the torso uses a lighter, stretchier and faster-drying material. That division makes sense when the shirt is worn under a plate carrier: the torso sits against the armour where moisture management and comfort matter most, while the forearms and elbows are exposed and subject to contact with ground, vehicles and equipment.
Mesh ventilation panels underneath the armpits address another specific constraint of armoured carry. When a plate carrier covers most of the torso and blocks natural ventilation, the underarm area becomes one of the few remaining pathways for heat and moisture to escape. Shoulder pockets are accessible both horizontally and vertically, remaining reachable even when a cummerbund and sidearm holster occupy the sides of the body. Kandahar Combat Shirt – Hooded Edition
The Kandahar Hooded Edition gave NorArm one of its most recognisable visual identities. The integrated hood is manufactured from 50/50 NYCO ripstop and adds an additional layer of environmental protection — useful in rain, dust or cold environments where a separate head covering would otherwise be required. It does not substantially change the construction of the shirt itself: the hooded version retains the quick-drying torso material, underarm mesh ventilation, and the dual-access shoulder pockets of the standard Kandahar. The hood sits flat under a helmet and does not interfere with headgear or hearing protection. Available in ISOF Black, Savage Green and Norwegian Woodland (in both Tan Body and Green Body variants) at Geartown.
The Extended NorArm Range

The Range collection deserves a specific mention because it reflects how NorArm thinks about its users. Not every professional environment calls for a full combat uniform, and not every mission requires Multicam. The Range Shirt and Range Pants use restrained designs that move naturally between the range, training environment and working day, while retaining the stretch fabrics and practical pocket layouts that NorArm's users expect. The Range Pants add a DWR treatment and carry pockets sized for pistol and rifle magazines without advertising the fact visually.
The Finnmark Half Zip Sweater and Finnmark Baselayer family address another part of the operational picture that is easy to overlook. Norway's climate and the environments where many of NorArm's users operate require proper cold-weather layering, and the Finnmark products bring Norwegian wool-based thermal performance into the same product family as the Kandahar uniform. The Odesa Signal Blocker is perhaps NorArm's most direct response to contemporary conflict: developed to provide protection against drone-based electronic targeting, it reflects how closely NorArm has remained connected to the realities of active warfare.
Close to Conflict, Connected to the End User
One of the most unusual aspects of NorArm is how closely the company has remained connected to contemporary conflicts as it has grown. NorArm's team has visited conflict zones and personally equipped fighters as part of its development and support activities, creating a feedback loop that goes considerably beyond what most tactical manufacturers achieve through questionnaires and trade shows. In 2026, NorArm's founders reportedly visited Kharkiv, Ukraine, while investigating the possibility of establishing clothing production in the city — a visit that took place while Kharkiv remained under significant drone attack. For NorArm, the move toward Ukrainian production represents more than outsourcing manufacturing. It reflects the company's continued connection to the environments and people for whom tactical clothing is actual working equipment.
NorArm also operates the NorArm Training Wing, providing training and consulting services to units and individuals, and has worked as an official partner of the European Security Academy (ESA). Those relationships create another feedback loop. A combat shirt cannot be properly evaluated separately from a plate carrier. Combat pants interact with belts, holsters, knee protection and footwear. Training environments provide opportunities to observe how equipment performs as a complete system rather than as individual components, which is how it is actually used.
Why NorArm Matters for European Buyers
For decades, the premium tactical clothing market has been dominated by American manufacturers. NorArm represents something increasingly important: a serious European tactical apparel brand, created by people with direct operational experience, that has reached a level of product maturity and international recognition that puts it alongside established American alternatives rather than simply alongside other European regional brands.
